Need for speed 2 is one of the most successful racing games ever. It was released on April 12, 1997 for Windows and its PlayStation version came on November 17, 1997. Nee for Speed 2 is developed by EA Canada and released by Electronic Arts. It is the sequel to the Need for Speed and the part of the Need for Speed series of games. Players can play Need for Speed 2 in both single player and multi-player versions.

Need for Speed 2 was surely a treat for Need for Speed gamers. The world class gameplay, beautiful and fast roads, more course information, 3-D game engine, and customized play. All these made Need for Speed 2 the best user delivered game of its times. It features tracks set in various parts of the world. It also features many out of the ordinary cars. And the cars featured in Need for Speed 2 are fun to drive. All the cars are divided in category A, B, or C based on their performance in the game. Many of these cars are concept cars which are never going to get completed.

Need for Speed 2 has switched from realistic gameplay of Need for Speed to arcade-style gameplay. The police pursuits had been removed from the version. It features seven tracks all set in different locations of the world. These tracks are more realistic than those of original Need for Speed. The special edition called Need for Speed 2: Special Edition features eight tracks. In addition, instead of mix of circuit and point-to-point tracks of Need for Speed, all the tracks of Need for Speed 2 are circuit tracks. Players can also drive off-the-road and can take shortcuts.

Need for Speed 2: Special Edition (NFS2: SE) features one bonus tracks, 4 additional exotic cars, wild-style driving and support for 3dfx Glide.
